NEW DELHI: Notice has been issued to Bansuri Swaraj in a criminal defamation case involving Satyendra Jain, with the next hearing scheduled for April 15 in New Delhi.
The Sessions Court of Rouse Avenue Court has taken action on a petition challenging the Magistrate Court’s decision to dismiss Satyendra Jain’s criminal defamation case against BJP MP Bansuri Swaraj. Special Judge Jitendra Singh has set the date for the next hearing on April 15.
The Sessions Court issued the notice on March 7 following the petition challenging the Magistrate Court’s ruling. On February 20, Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Neha Mittal had dismissed Satyendra Jain’s petition. During the Magistrate Court hearing, Bansuri Swaraj responded by calling Jain’s petition politically motivated. Swaraj’s lawyer argued that the allegations made by Jain were influenced by the Delhi assembly elections.
Satyendra Jain filed the petition claiming that Bansuri Swaraj’s statements were an attempt to tarnish his reputation. Jain alleged that Swaraj had falsely claimed that Rs 3 crore, 1.8 kg of gold, and 133 gold coins were found in his house. The petition also mentioned Swaraj’s defamatory remarks made during a televised interview in October 2023, where she labeled Jain as corrupt and fake.
